Kinja'd!!!10 Kinja'd!!! 8

Just realized I’ve had the civic for about 5 months. Heck of a change.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This disaster is what I paid $500 for back in early March.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Here’s how it sits now. In those five months I have done the following:

Stock headlights

Stock tail lights

Stock exhaust

Stock header

Removed stupid seat covers

Refinished steelies and covers

Found some carpet from another Civic for the trunk

LED dome light (best mod ever)

All new Pioneer speakers (second best mod ever)

Spent a solid week un-fucking the headlight wiring

Spent a solid five hours un-fucking the head unit and speaker wiring

Swapped engine/trans, spent two months chasing problems

Painted grille chrome surround

Repaired fuel filler door

Swapped struts with lower-mileage used examples

Ripped out and re-did previous owner’s disastrously bad sub wiring, under the carpet this time

Got a couple new dents after a motorcycle failed to signal and hit the car

And through all of this my in-city commute to work has netted me 30-33mpg consistently, no matter the heat, weather, enthusiasm *cough*, or A/C usage. Say what you will about rice or the hilariously underpowered D16Y7, this car is a damn trouper and never fails to get me where I need to go for mere pennies.

That's a sweet deal. It's probably worth more than you paid by a good grand now, too.

De-ricing is a noble act, thank you sir. You’ve done well.

That sounds familiar! Got mine about eight months ago and have been trying to get it to good condition bit by bit. Even as it is, it averages 29 mpg while delivering pizzas. They’re great cars for the little econoboxes that they are.

People often leave me comments like this, and I’m not sure the reason. I see unmolested Civic sedans more often than I see riced ones around here, and they’re always driven by little old white-haired ladies. Probably not automatics, but still rust-free straight bodies (the car, not the old lady).

I there rare where I live almost ever civic has, at the very least, some altezza taillights, or a football sized rust hole but the rear fender.

There is an excuse for rice. Think about it:

Ricers never touch the engine bay. they dance all around it making aural/visual changes, but that’s it. The resulting vehicle is probably slower than stock due to the extra weight. So if you make it look and sound like a ricer but make significant mechanical changes underneath, you end up with something that’s even more of a sleeper than if it was left stock.

I can get behind that.
